Tier on Tier Shutters in Essex
Upper and lower panels that open on their own. Sky above, privacy below, and every shade between.

Tier on tier divides each window into two sets of panels, hinged separately. Fold the top back for open sky and morning light while the lower panels stay closed. When evening comes, close both and the room draws in around you.
They suit you if:
- Your front room looks onto a busy road or neighbours close by
- You want an open view at the top without feeling on show
- You have a Victorian or Edwardian sash, where the split can align with the meeting rail
Consider another style if: you rarely open shutters fully. The extra panels and hinges add to the price, so if you would only ever tilt the louvres, full height gives the same calm for less.
All tier on tier shutters are made in solid hardwood (Basswood, Ashwood or Paulownia) in your choice of painted or stained finish and louvre size. Never faux wood or MDF.

Other styles to consider
01 Full Height
One unbroken panel from sill to top. Quiet, architectural, and the shape most people picture when they imagine shutters.
02 Cafe Style
Privacy across the lower half, with the top of the window left open to trees and sky.
03 Solid Panel
Smooth hardwood panels with no louvres. The traditional period shutter, and the deepest dark.
04 Tracked
Panels that glide along a track instead of swinging open. Made for bifolds, patio doors and wide openings.
